Contemporary mixed media artist Saira Grube lives and works locally in the Bay Area. She graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramic Sculpture. Her work has been shown in the de Young Museum and galleries in Mendocino, Walnut Creek, Benicia, Danville, and Oakland ,
and was included in the personal collection of
renowned ceramic artist Viola Frey.
The artist's work is richly textured and highly tactile with many layers of paper, ink, and paint
that forms a curiously welcoming world
full of submerged imagery.
Her distinctive personal style illustrates
the artist's love of unusual imagery and bold,
yet subtle colors which blend together to create
a sense of cohesion in her work.
Many of her works are intriguingly entangled
by a delicately dreamlike landscape filled with dilapidated structures, ancient ruins, hidden libraries, lush kelp forests, odd dwellings, forgotten artifacts or rambling, untamed gardens. The work focuses on the often unrecognized beauty that happens as nature slowly overtakes civilization.
The artist often finds that when she creates a piece,
it evolves unexpectedly, almost as though it has
an energy and a life all of its own.
